Our company has been instrumental in engineering and building the world's first solar irrigation cooperative at a small village - Dhundi in Gujarat. Irrigation based on ground-water contributes to the rapidly depleting underground aquifers in the country.
Grid-connected solar pumps provide the opportunity to this cooperative to export the excess energy back into the grid and earn a revenue.
This enables judicious behavior on behalf of the farmer, thereby saving groundwater and also secures a stable cash flow for the farmer.
Our company has been instrumental in working at the grass-roots level to educate and train the farmers as well as construct a micro-grid in a previously unserved part of the state.
This challenging project involved building trust among the farmers, NGOs, government and the local power distribution company.
This case study served as a lighthouse demonstration project and is now being scaled up all across the state as well as across the country through a national policy on grid connected solar pumps.
